AERSŌMA

Resonance breathing, six slow breaths a minute

Breathe in

5

In for five and out for five, with nothing held at either end.

What it is

Resonance breathing is slow breathing at around six breaths a minute. Many people do it with the in-breath and the out-breath the same length and no pauses, and that is how it works here. In AERSŌMA it is called Even Breath, and it comes in steps.

  • 5-5 A set, even pace, the way into breathing more slowly.
  • 5.5-5.5 A small step slower than Even Breath 5-5.
  • 6-6 Six seconds in, six seconds out, five cycles a minute, nothing held. Slow enough that keeping the two sides equal takes some attention.

How to follow it

Sit upright, somewhere you can stay for five minutes. Hands resting. Breathe softly: there is no need to fill your lungs.

If five seconds feels like a stretch, let the sound run on without you for a few breaths, then join it again. Stop if you feel light-headed and breathe normally.

Take it with you

Even Breath is in the app in all its steps, with the same sound. Free, no ads, and it works without a signal.
